Chapter 3 character development

In the book so far Luis has discussed some of the issues he has faced in his childhood. The Luis has developed from a small defenseless little boy to a highly intelligent teenager. Thinking the whole world is against him. I do understand why he maybe thinks this about himself. In chapter 3, while he's in jail he starts to talk to a cop. Who mentions that cops arrest kids just to make it easy for them to be able to arrest for nothing later. Experiencing this while you are still being a teenage while make you see the world in whole new light. A world that is turned against you. Also when he was little he saw his friend Tino die because he was running for the cops. So early on starts to develop a sense of fear and resentment toward the police and the school system. I think to live through the 1970’s has had an impact on his character. During that time LA was still suffering from racism. Seen this as a kid affects you because it makes you feel that the only people who can protect you and your property are you. Lead to people creating a group from to have a sense of family but also have something to protect them.
