The beginning
In the beginning, Always Running seemed pretty boring to me. It was not until I started to read more when I become more engaged with the story. The book is written by Luis J. Rodriguez describing his life as a kid growing up having to deal with discrimination, poverty, and problems at home. Reading more of the first chapter made me realize how similar story Luis and me happened. I grow up in south central LA and faced similar problems at school. One line I found powerful would be when the author compared himself to a ball. To paraphrase he describe himself as just bouncing from place to place. In the chapter, he describes his family as not having a stable place. Which could explain why he compares himself to a ball; just bouncing from home to home. Another thing I was shocked by was his use of imagery. For example, when he described his mother cutting her veins to relieve her pain reading this part made me feel uneasy. In this chapter, Rodriguez shows into a glimpse into his childhood filled with difficulties and obstacles to overcome. So far I think the book is interesting and can’t wait to finish the book.

I agree with the fact that Luis, does face the hardships he does while growing up. Both him and his family suffering from discrimination, poverty, and problems at home but mainly the main character Luis. I like how you include the scene with the ball. The author uses this simile show the current situation he is in right now. I also like how you analyzed the the quote because that's basically what's going on but to add on i think he also “bouncing around” because he testing the waters and discovering who he really is; i think the chapter talked about him discovering who he is.
